Well, the first FULL week of school is finished! Kids tired yet? (Parents? ) We’re at the incubation period being completed for the fall sniffles cycle – good times ahead and send in boxes of tissue!
Kidding aside, we have the first big Home and School event this Tuesday, September 17th – the Welcome Back Picnic!! We still need volunteers! You can sign up online or on our H&S board just to the left in the Bain entrance. We really need people to hand out pizza in the 5:30-6:15 and 6:15-7 time slots.
Who: parents/guardians/students of Withrow Jr PS
What: Pizza Party Picnic
– pizza slices (cheese or pepperoni)
– carrots
– apples
– ice cream truck ($3-$8, cash only, not a fundraiser)
– bake sale (cash only for this and funds raised are for the Bain Avenue Mural Project)
– water (BYO water bottle!)
Where: Withrow Park schoolyard, rain or shine
When: 5:30-7pm
Why: to get the school community together, eat some food (and not have to cook), let the kids run about and play, and parents can meet and greet!
Donations are welcome but not required for pizza, fruits and veggies, and water
Ms. Kingstone’s Grade 1/2 class will also be selling orange t-shirts for $5. Read more about Orange Shirt Day, on Sept. 30th.

Part of what Home and School does is fundraise for items for the school. Things like the new outdoor climber, grass field, and paved out and track are recent examples of our outdoor contributions. This year we will support the OPAL (outdoor play and learning) initiative. We provide funding for our fantastic Garden Education, Elin, who works with both English and Immersion classes each fall and spring. Inside, we have provided support for arts, technology, STEM and other endeavours.
We moved away from a ‘fundraising by chocolate/coffee/wrapping paper’ model several years ago. Now, we simply ask directly for those who would like to contribute to do so – our annual ‘giving’ campaign.
Donations of $25 and up will receive a tax receipt. We welcome all donations: it is not a requirement as people give in different ways. We would suggest a donation of $25 per child who attends Withrow. This will help us toward meeting our fundraising goal.
You can donate online via our Square payment system, or we accept cheques payable to ‘Withrow Home & School Association’ and you can leave in the H&S mailbox in the main office.
