Update: On-going Traffic Discussions

As many of you are already aware, there are ongoing discussions in our neighbourhood about traffic. Some residents feel there is too much non-residential traffic on our streets, driving too fast. The Riverdale Traffic Working Group was established in collaboration with Councillor Paula Fletcher to develop a plan to calm and reduce such traffic. Their proposed plan is available on their website here: http://www.myriverdale.ca/.

Since it was published another group has formed – The Concerned Riverdale Residents – in opposition to some of the elements in the proposal, specifically the proposal to redirect some blocks of one-way traffic. They have started a petition and information about their views can be found on their website: http://concernedriverdaleresidents.blogspot.ca/.

If you have any questions or concerns about this topic please direct it to one of these two groups. Contacts are available on their respective websites.

The proposal from the Riverdale Traffic Group will be presented at a community meeting with Councillor Paula Fletcher this Wednesday, May 13 at 7pm at St. John’s Presbyterian Church at 415 Broadview Avenue. The meeting is open to everyone.

The Withrow H&S is not involved in either of these groups, and the sharing of this information is not intended as an endorsement of any opinion on this matter. However, we strongly encourage our school community to attend the traffic meeting in order for all voices and opinions to be heard. We all want our streets to be as safe as possible and we encourage everyone to participate in a friendly and democratic process in order to accomplish that.
